John J. Searl, 82, of Port Byron died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Cross, Port Byron. Burial will be in Zuma Cemetery, Port Byron. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the church.

Mr. Searl was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Port Byron, the son of John and Lucy Jacobs Searl. He married Twila V. Denhardt on Nov. 26, 1955, in East Moline.

He graduated from Port Byron High School. He served in the Army during the occupation of Japan during World War II.

John retired in 1978 from the former International Harvester, East Moline, after 30 years of service. He was a farmer and also raised Christmas trees.

He was a member of the Church of the Cross, UAW Local 1304 and had served on the Zuma Township Board.

Survivors include his wife, Twila; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Anna Mae and Herman Reymer; a brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Dorothy Searl; and a special nephew, Michael Searl.
